Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Accession to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
Geneva, Switzerland.
On June 19, 2025, WIPO H.E. Akillino H. Susaia, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Embassy and Permanent Mission in Geneva Switzerland met with Director General Mr. Daren Tang from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the WIPO Head Quarters in Geneva Switzerland to officially deposit the instrument of accession to the WIPO Convention. FSM is the 194 and newest member of the WIPO.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a United Nations International Entity responsible to provide Legal and Technical Assistance to member states on Intellectual Property (IP) Rights. Becoming a member of WIPO, FSM`s traditional innovations in such products as the Pohnpei Urohs, Chuuk`s Nikoutang and other Traditional Knowledge Products and Innovations will be protected against Copyright Infringements through the WIPO International Legal Regimes and Agreements.
The Embassy and Permanent Mission is currently engaged with the WIPO technical staff in discussions regarding the best way forward for the FSM to set up an institutional arrangement or implementation office which will coordinate with the WIPO Secretariat various IP International Agreements and Treaties.
